Application of the Virtual Test Bed in the Design of Power Electronic Building Blocks

چکیده

This paper describes a tool, called the Virtual Test Bed (VTB), for the analysis and design of electric power systems. Specifically, the VTB is a simulation environment which is intended for virtual prototyping of modern electric power distribution systems and power electronic components. The VTB is built around an efficient network solver, an advanced visualization system, a model library, and several integrated model construction tools. The emphasis of this paper is to describe the integrated EM field and thermal solver modules that allow for the construction of advanced physics-based models of power electronic components and how they can be used within the VTB to aid in the analysis and design of power systems.
